wine vacume
how long does a bottle of wine last after you open it and if you use a vacume cork on it will it last longer?

Wine starts oxidizing immediately upon opening. It’s best to finish a bottle in one night. If simply recorked, it’ll go bad within a day or two

Vacuum corks are mostly bunk. The mechanism isn’t strong enough to create a true vacuum; even if it were, it would just suck the bouquet out of the wine, killing the flavor.

To preserve wine after one sitting, buy a bottle of compressed nitrogen specifically for this purpose. (Wine Enthusiast sells a good bottle on Amazon for $10-120 uses.) The nitrogen mix is heavier than air. When you spray the nitrogen into the bottle, it displaces the oxygen and sits above the wine, preventing the extra oxygen from reaching the wine and turning it into vinegar.

Even this isn’t perfect, though–and it’s best tried with an actual resealer, instead of simply reusing the cork. Using a bottle sealer, you may be able to get 3 weeks out of it; simply reusing the cork (put the dry side in first, it’ll fit snugger) can get you probably 1-2 weeks.
