Why do people move a glass of wine in round movements before they drink it?

Is there any reason for that? Is it true that wine tastes better if it breathe oxygen before you drink it?

Answer is yes wine needs to breathe before it will full develop it’s full flavor, wine has what is called tannins, some mild and rich, so reds have more tannins generally need more time to breathe and the reason the swirl the wine is to oxygenate it before taste/hitting the palate. If you order a bottle or red at a restaurant ask for a decanter, wine decanters are great and help to shorten the breathing process especially if you decant 30-45 minutes before your meal, the older the bottle myth would say more breathe time, I have decanted white wine which some people have thought was insane and against rule of thumb due to white grape processing for starter and doesn’t need decanted but seriously the more you expand your palate, and develop a love for wine you will do what you need to do to enhance flavor, so think of it like this if your spending big bucks on a bottle or even 10 bucks do as you will, you dont have to always have to follow the other wine snobs do what make syou happy, I’m Italian and wine for my family is fun and regardless of how you drink it it still gives you a nice fuzzy feeling inside
