Reasons For European Wines Being The Premium Ones

Why is it that the European wines are one of the best in the world? The prices that these can command are far more than what can be got for the others. This is quite obvious that these are also the finest of all. Their wines are consumed within Europe as well as exported to all the countries of the world. Viticulture, the science of growing the grapes and other fruits in the vineyards for the purpose of making wines, is practised across Europe, in different countries. The wines produced in the different vineyards are mostly named after the region in which these are grown, or it can even be named after the vineyard itself.

The main reasons for Europe producing the finest quality of wines is that the climatic conditions of this region suit the growth of top quality grapes and other fruits which are used for making the alcoholic beverages. The Mediterranean type of climate in which the rains occur during the summers is the uniquely responsible for the growth of best quality viticulture practices. The difference in the seasons of the northern and the southern hemispheres leads to the movement of the skilled people from one region to another and this enables the exchange of experience and expertise. The wine community of the wine tasters helps to benchmark and grade the different wines across different parts of the world. They play a very important part in the determination of the wine prices during the ‘en primeur’. The wine futures, or ‘En Primeur’, is a way to purchase the wines while they are still in the barrel, about two years away from being bottled. In this process, the wine buyers are invited to book the wines after tasting them while these are still in the barrels. This way the wineries protect themselves from the unforeseen losses that may occur in future and the buyers get the wines at very cheap rates (as compared to the expected wine rates after some years).

The European wines are the premium wines and fetch one of the highest prices. These are mostly in demand from all over the world. The rich and the famous and anyone who likes wines wants to have premium European wines. There is a general tendency to believe that the older the wine, the better it is. But, this is applicable only to some of the wines. Otherwise, wines do have their own shelf life and shall be consumed within that period. To clear the stocks, these can also be offered on discounted prices.
