Wine Making Equipment Kits – Best Online, Plastic or Glass Bottle?

I’m looking at getting into making my own wine. I don’t know what I need and have been looking at kits on various web sites. Looking for recomendations on equipment. Thanks!

I have been homebrewing for a bit over three years, and I am currently writing a book on the topic. Here is what I recommend as the bare minimum equipment needed to brew:

* Plastic Primary Fermenter, three times the amount of the largest batch you intend to make (most home winemakers make 5-6 gallon batches, so I recommend a fermenter in the 15-18 gallon range — my fermenter is 30 gallons). If you’re using grape concentrate from your brewshop instead of all grapes, the fermenter doesn’t have to be as large. If you ever plan to do all-grape brewing, it’s a good idea to go ahead and get the larger fermenter.
* 2 Plastic Carboys, 5-6 gallon (I recommend the “Better Bottle” brand)
* Large metal spoon with a very long handle, for getting to the bottom of that fermenter and stirring up the grapes
* Large metal straining spoon, for straining out the grapes once primary fermentation is done
* 6 feet (1.8 m) 3/8″ plastic tubing, for siphoning
* 1 Racking Cane or Autosiphon (I strongly recommend the Autosiphon, for ease of siphoning your must from the fermenter to the carboy – put the racking cane end of the Autosiphon in the fermenter, pump the handle, and siphoning starts automatically)
* 1 Ferrari Automatic Bottle Filler (Best. Bottle-filler. EVER. –and NOT expensive!)
* 1 Italian Double-Lever Easy Corker (simplest corker I’ve ever used)

Optional:
* Hydrometer (optional, but STRONGLY recommended)
* Thermometer
* Acid titration kit (Wine is really picky about acid levels when fermenting; more-so than any other brew you can make)
