What to remove for closing of house… ?

I am selling my home and am wondering if I should leave decorative things that are installed in the wall – like curtain pull backs and a wine shelf in the kitchen. Do I leave them – or uninstall for the new owners?

The simple answer to your question is leave them for the new owner. Here’s why.

Real estate is defined as land and everything permanently attached to the land. So the house is obviously part of the real estate but also, anything that is permanently attached to the house. Permanently attached means it’s nailed, screwed, or glued, etc. to a wall or floor. Basically, if you need a tool to remove it, it’s part of the house and stays with the house.

Examples: The wine shelf: probably screwed in so it stays with the house. A shower curtain and rod: probably just squeezed between the walls (no nails) so it’s personal property and you can take it with you. A refrigerator: if it’s just plugged in and free standing it’s personal property and you can take it with you.
