Kitchen Accessories in my Closet?

Are you looking for unique ways to make your closet beautiful, efficient and organized?  Consider these ideas that utilize cabinetry and cabinet accessories to give your closet an upscale feel while keeping things versatile and organized.

You’re probably familiar with the lazy Suzan.  It is usually comprised of one or two circular shelves that rotate around a central point.  You can get a lazy Suzan that hides away in a cabinet with one ninety degree cut-out for the cabinet doors to close.  These are great for storing a lot of shoes in a small space.  The doors hide the shoes while keeping out dust.  Build a cedar cabinet to keep odors and moisture at bay.

Another idea is to get a floor to ceiling lazy Suzan that fits in a corner.  The shelves are smaller and are sometimes adjustable.  You can lower the bottom one to accommodate boots while keeping the top ones close together for flip-flops.  You can use it for more than just shoes.  Jewelry, bins of mementos, excess beauty aids, hair rollers, sporting equipment and more can be kept on these little rotating shelves.

A more involved version that would be a true luxury to have would be a horizontal lazy Susan style shelf system.  Horizontal shelves can rotate around a horizontal bar.  Imagine an elevator system for your things.  This allows you to only see what is on the front shelf.  You can use one as a shoe rack near the bottom of the closet, or a unique storage space near the top.  Because the top shelf can go all the way to the ceiling, you are utilizing space that would normally be out of reach.

Don’t limit yourself to closet systems when figuring out what will work with your closet.  We saw a closet that had a giant, shallow wine rack installed for socks, ties and belts.  Criss-crossed boards about four inches deep went from the floor to about six feet high.  This provided a lot of space for ties, belts and rolled socks to be stored while utilizing a very small amount of what used to be wasted space.  Wire in a small spotlight for the wall and you’ve got yourself a high-end closet feature that looks creative and utilizes space wisely.

If you have the space, you can add in a small cabinet or shelving system.  Drawers and cabinet doors are useful for keeping things hidden from sight, making your closet appear nice and neat.  Kitchen drawer organizers are useful for organizing small household items like batteries, cameras, chargers, jewelry, or whatever needs storing in your home.  There are endless options for organization systems that install inside cabinets.  Determine what you could use your cabinet for and then shop the kitchen section of your favorite cabinet accessory web site for ideas.  You can use towel racks that pivot out to hang pants or a rail with movable hooks for hanging purses.  You can maximize hanging space by adding in hanging bar extensions and using metal hangers.  You can make your closet luxurious and fragrant with cedar hangers.  Use your imagination and have fun creating your own dream closet.
