Have you heard of Riedel wine glasses, and are they worth it?

I have heard that these special glasses which come in different types for different wines, affect the bouquet/taste.

I do not know about wine, but am thinking of getting someone for a relative who is v. into it. But are these glasses worth it I wonder as they are expensive.
thank you for all these responses so far. Since I put up this question someone has told me about Spiegelau glasses, saying that they are less fragile and breakable, but still make a difference. Plus bit cheaper! What do you think?

Riedel solved the old question..who is the fairest in the land by buying Spiegelau but kept the range as a “Starter kit for Connoisseurs”. ;-)
Go for Spiegelau if its for you and show you know how to compromise.
I believe a good glass makes all the difference in the world…like a good pan or a good knife but you are in a quality range where it does not really matter anymore and is a question of personal taste ( stem thinner than the other, musical tone different)
As a present go for Riedel..just buy only two glasses.
