how to write on wine glasses with sharpie oil based paint markers?

I have 3 different paint markers and i want to know how to write in a straight line on a wine glass. i am just writing friends names,

I would use masking tape as a guide too, but to make sure you are getting a level line, use a small level to place the masking tape, because if you place your masking tape at a slant, your words will be at a slant. I also am not sure a sharpie is the best thing to use. There are glass paints you can pick up at a craft store. I have used a sharpie before for parties and they work ok, but it can come off fairly easily. The glass paints may work better, but I am not sure since I have never used them.
