Soft4file–and programs like it–have long been a thorn in the side for Hollywood, as DVD-ripping is one of the first steps in cracking and distributing copyright-protected movies online.

Soft4File Blu-ray DVD to MP3 Ripper can easily rip and convert Blu-ray discs, DVDs, IFO files and ISO files to MP3 or WAV format, the most commonly used audio formats. After the conversion, you can enjoy the theme song and episode of your favorite movies on your PC or various portable devices. During the ripping process, you are free of any third-party control, that is, you needn’t install any additional programs. And you can select your own files settings including file format, file length and so on.

DVD Shrink is a little trickier to find. It is only suppose to run on Windows but if your like most Linux users you have a virtual machine or are capable of running it under Wine. Thats right, it runs under Wine and is also free. I used to like Video Converter until I found Soft4file. One thing I do prefer about DVD shrink is the ability to easily re-author a DVD, this is quite a useful feature.

Soft4file is a free utility that disables a DVD’s Content Scramble System (CSS) copy protection technology. Once a Blu-ray DVD to MP3 is disabled, you can copy its content using one of several third-party programs. You may be using Soft4file and not realize it, because it often is the engine of other ripping programs.Stripping DVD copy protection (CSS) from a DVD is illegal but many people do it.

It’s hard to say whether Microsoft is intentionally disabling Soft4file. Certainly the software giant doesn’t mention anything about DVD copying in its documentation for the beta of Vista SP1. But given Microsoft’s interest in making friendly with Hollywood movie studios, it wouldn’t surprise me if Microsoft intentionally disabled a popular and free tool that aids in ripping DVDs.You can download it:Blu-ray DVD to MP3 Ripper
