How do i help myself overcome a drinking problem? Please help?

What started out as just 1 bottle of wine per week,just at night to help chill me out and enjoy as a treat, soon turned into drinking a bottle twice a week then to 3 or 4 and over some years, finally progressing to drinking every single night. I am now at 1 and a half to 2 bottles of wine every single night.
It just seems all too easy to sit down at night and combat my boredom and mild restlessness with alcohol and then to go to bed at night and sleep. I am an anxiety sufferer and as a result of this it restricts a lot of things in life i would like to do making my life seem rather mundane, additionally i also used to suffer from insomnia.
I am fully aware that this problem is damaging my health but i just do not seem to have the will power to go a night without it. I do not want to quite drinking all together, but rather drastically reduce my intake and find some control so that i can happily go nights without it. Any advise would be much appreciated.Thank you.

We have lots of relatives in Australia and a lot of people over there have your problem. Social drinking starts with a tinny as soon as you get home and then goes on to wine.

As a nation they are looking at lots of things but if everyone in Oz went to AA who drank like you they would be swamped!

Some good advice that my cousin says is working for her is to have one night a week that she doesnt drink. But she says its no good sitting around,you have to go somewhere where you cant drink. So she goes to the pictures once a week. Drink driving rules are really strict so she cant drink all evening. Going home and going to bed without a drink is the tough bit, but if she can do it so can you. She has got to the stage now where she is looking at adding in an extra day.

Also they talk about ‘wine o clock’ Setting yourself a time before which you dont drink and gradually push that back a few minutes at a time. Again distract yourself for those extra minutes take a shower, wash your hair anything that isnt compatible with drinking.
