If a man buys a woman an expensive dinner, should I assume it was a date?

A guy I have mutual friends with (but I just met) asked me to meet for a drink 2 days after I met him. It ended up at an expensive restaurant and we had a full dinner including a bottle of wine. My guess is it probably cost between $200 and $250 for the meal. He selected the wine by asking me what I like but I don’t know how much it cost. When the check came, he put his card down and closed the holder. I offered but he said no.

Does this mean it was a date?
He kissed me on both cheeks at the end.

The question isn’t whether or not it was a date (seems so), rather, how important was it to him.

Some men have enough money to wine and dine a different woman each evening. You’d do best to take things slowly if you’re romantically interested. See if he is simply setting you up for a one-night stand, or is interested in something more. Get to know him as a person. Don’t get too dazzled by his spending or think you owe him something in return. He CHOSE to pay.

Another gentle warning: often guys who spend a lot on the first date are the same guys who have superiority complexes and have gf.s or wives on the side. If you want something more than a fling, keep talking to him and sizing him up before you let things go further.
