oyster bay wine
What wine would compliment cajun mahi-mahi?

Im itching to know! These are the choices the restuarant has but if you have another answer thats fine too. I know I can ask the waiter but like i said im anxious to know! lol.

INDABA CHARDONNAY,
MEZZACORONA PINOT GRIGIO,
OYSTER BAY SAUVIGNON BLANC,
CHATEAU STE. MICHELLE RIESLING,
DANZANTE PINOT GRIGIO &
HESS MONTEREY CHARDONNAY

1) Please don’t listen to Noah on this one (sorry, Noah — really). Spicy foods almost always get white wines. Almost all varieties of fish get white wine. Mahi-Mahi is very much a white wine fish.

2) Mahi-Mahi is already a very sweet fish. This makes it a great pairing for spicier seasonings. Having said that, I have no idea how spicy your “Cajun” fish is. It is also important to note that Cajun does not alway denote hot.

Having said that, I would probably stay away from Chardonnays of any variety, and would definitely avoid Pinot Grigio or Pinot Blanc. I’ve not had the Oyster Bay Sauv Blanc, but you’d probably be alright with the Chateau Ste. Michelle… though I tend to think it’s a little overly sweet.

If you don’t find the fish to be too overly hot, and you want a white that will complement the seasonings involved in Cajun cooking, I would suggest trying out a Verdejo (variety) like Paso a Paso (brand). A Godello or Xarel-lo (varieties) would also be good choices, but are harder to find. I think these Spanish wines pair better with fish than most Frech-origin wines do.
