Can I make homemade wine/root beer with stuff I already have at home?

All the tutorials and stuff I find say you need some sort of equipment from a brewer’s shop like some sort of completely air-tight thing… Can I make it with my own jars or plastic bottles though?
I meant glass bottles, but I mean I would use plastic too if that’d work.

I brew beer, not wine or root beer, but here’s a brewer’s perspective…

It is certainly possible to cobble together almost everything you need to brew from things around the house, depending on what you’ve got and how well you can channel your inner MacGyver. Many of us really get off on the whole DIY side of brewing. But I only do it when it looks like it would be fun and if I’m confident the beer won’t suffer.

So can you? Sure. Will the product suffer? Only you can answer that.
