Wine Connoisseurs, help!!- Red wine similar to White Zinfandel??

I’m going to an Italian restaurant for dinner. I would like to try a red wine, but am very hesitant. I most often of the white wines drink White Zinfandel. Of the red wine list choices from the menu I pasted below, is there anything similar?

Light to Medium-bodied:
Merlot, Ecco Domani, Italy
Pinot Noir, Francis Coppola
Pinot Noir, Estancia Pinnacles
Sangiovese-Merlot-Cabernet blend, Banfi Centine, Italy
Merlot, Blackstone
Chianti, Gabbiano, DOCG, Italy

Medium to Full-bodied:
Cabernet Sauvignon, Copperidge
Cabernet Sauvignon, Mondavi Woodbridge
Chianti Riserva, Ducarosso, Italy
Zinfandel, Ravenswood, Vintners Blend
Syrah, Trapiche
Merlot, Clos du Bois
Alexander Valley Reserve
Chianti Classico Riserva, Banfi, Italy

Full-bodied:
Super Tuscan, Pian di Nova, Italy
Cabernet Sauvignon, J. Lohr “Seven Oaks”
Cabernet Sauvignon, Folie à Deux
Claret, Francis Coppola

White Zin is usually classified as a rose, and that is very sweet. Jumping to a red is going to be an awakening.

I don’t see it on the wine list, but I would recommend a Gamay Beaujolais (sp?).

On the list above I would say go with one of the two Pinot Noirs. I don’t know the Estancia specifically, but the others I know are very nice. The Coppola Pinot is nice and enjoyable.

On a side note, that is a nice looking wine list. If you really get stuck a cool bartender or wine steward will help you out.

2008 Blackstone Monterey Riesling 750ml

The Blackstone Monterey County Riesling offers aromatic notes of fresh peach and pear as well as hints of honeyed apricot. These notes are lifted by a touch of natural acidity. The wine is soft and viscous in the mouth with fresh flavors of sweet fruit. Although this Riesling has a touch of residual sugar, the acid balance renders a soft, but dry sensation that will support pairings with baked ham…
