Is the “typical” American lifestyle hamstringing health care?

In general…

We eat junk. We don’t exercise. We work long hours and don’t take vacations.

Compare that to the French.

Their food is made fresh and is a pleasure, healthy red wine with every meal.

The French are a far more pedestrian/bicycle society.

The French are only now starting to have to work on Sundays, get over a month of vacation time every year, and have a less than 40 hour work week.

Do you think that beyond the health care accessibility issue, the basic lifestyles of France (and many other European countries and Japan) impact their costs and burdens on health care?

You have a valid point there. It took me 20 years at my last job to get more than 4 weeks vacation each year. Our American culture is one of the most stress-filled culture on the face of the Earth. We worry about everything, even things that aren’t any of our business. Should we make worry such an ingrained habit? I don’t think so. The stereotypical heart-attack victim is, often more than not, depicted as an overweight, sedentary smoker. More often, the real heart attack victim is younger, on the slender side, and either a smoker or a worrier, and has NO HISTORY OF HEART PROBLEMS.

Our national health care debate should soon zero in on all the junk food, sugar, toxins, and tobacco usage. Tobacco is another topic, as American tobacco is filled with more than 200 poisonous chemical additives. So is our food, not just the so-called junk food.

Sorry about that… I just had to add all that in. Unless we trim down, eliminate toxins and sugar from our diets, stop smoking and “chewing”, and walk more, our national health care will end up costing us way more than anyone can guess right now. That alone will start another “hate-war” against the victims of our “American lifestyle” soon.
